This is the first major exhibition in Italy dedicated to the photographer and painter with 126 black and white photographs (including vintage and modern prints), 40 colour photographs, 42 paintings, 5 original magazines of the time and a film document.
Saul Leiter portrayed the New York of the second half of the 20th century with a lyrical and intimist gaze, depicting urban scenes and portraits, and lending his lens to the world of fashion.
Anxious and refractory to fame, he printed only a few of the many shots he took during his lifetime, which only resurfaced after his death and are representative of the fairy-tale realism typical of his style.
Vertigo Syndrome in collaboration with diChroma photography and curated by Anne Morin, presents the first major Italian exhibition dedicated to Saul Leiter from 1 May to 27 July 2025 at the Belvedere of the Reggia di Monza. The exhibition, entitled ‘A Window Dotted with Raindrops’, consists of 126 black and white photographs, 40 colour photographs, 42 paintings and rare archive materials, such as original vintage magazines and a film document.
The exhibition, which includes both vintage and modern prints, early experimental work and fashion photographs taken during his collaborations with Harper’s Bazaar, clearly reveals what clearly distinguishes Saul Leiter from his contemporaries and why his work continues to influence photography today.
