The exhibition “Sandokan. The Tiger Roars Again” traces the origins and evolution of one of the most iconic characters in adventure literature, created by Emilio Salgari. The exhibition takes visitors on a journey into the world of the Malaysian pirate, weaving together literature, exotic imagery and popular culture, whilst exploring the historical and geographical context that inspired the famous stories set in South-East Asia.
Through historical artefacts, traditional weapons, illustrations, archival materials, costumes and audiovisual contributions, the exhibition traces the many lives of Sandokan: from the pages of Salgari’s novels to the famous 1970s television series directed by Sergio Sollima and starring Kabir Bedi. A journey through myth, adventure and collective memory that shows how the ‘Tiger of Malaysia’ continues to roar in the imagination of generations of readers and viewers to this day.
