TRIBUTE TO VIVIAN MAIER: Vivian Maier, a quiet photographer who carried her camera ‘at heart level like a talisman’ to find her place in the world.
Nicola Magrin, a watercolourist known for his natural landscapes, has created an artistic tribute to Maier by swapping his usual colours for black water-based ink. He has produced eight square-format watercolours, reminiscent of Vivian Maier’s Rolleiflex shots, with an effect similar to photographs in the printing stage. Eight works capture different facets of the photographer, resonating with Magrin’s personal experiences: a mountain, a dog and a blurred portrait of Maier that evokes her mystery. Magrin’s tribute sensitively reinterprets Maier’s work, creating a bridge between two artists who, whilst using different mediums, share a deep connection with the world around them and the ability to capture its essence through their art.
